Rules & Policies

As a USA Track & Field (USATF) sanctioned event, the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K is subject to the USATF Competition Rules. The Policies and Procedures incorporate the USATF Rules and additional provisions adopted by Beyond Monumental to ensure a safe, fair race for all participants. WILL EACH RACE BE CERTIFIED?

All CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon race distances are certified by USATF. All USATF rules apply.

CAN I BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE RACE?

You will be disqualified if:
– You are not wearing your assigned race bib.
– You are found to be wearing two or more Event-issued timing devices during the race and your results will not be recorded.
– You leave the course.
– You are found to have intentionally shortened the route of the course.

You may be disqualified if:
– You attempt to enter a start wave to which you are not assigned.
– You are missing or have irregular split times at official timing checkpoints.
– You are found to have received assistance from any person other than approved Event personnel including guide runners, support runners, and pacers.

Please note, your race entry/bib number is unique to your registration and may not be sold to any other individual.

All finish times are reviewed before times are deemed official. Participants will be given the opportunity to appeal unofficial finish times before the finish times are made official.

Participants must begin the Event during the officially recognized start time in order to register an official finish time.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT FOR EACH RACE DISTANCE?

Marathon participants must be 16 years of age or older on race day.

Half marathon participants must be 10 years of age or older on race day.

5K participants must be 5 years of age or older on race day.

All participants must sign/agree to the Event waiver. A parent or legal guardian must register participants under 18 years of age and sign/agree to the Event waiver.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR MY RACE BIB?

Registered participants must wear their assigned race bib at all times during the Event. Your bib should be worn conspicuously on the front (and back when applicable) for the entire Event.

No one is allowed to participate in the Event without their assigned race bib.

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ALLOWED OR NOT RECOMMENDED ON THE COURSE?

You WILL NOT be allowed to participate with animals, bicycles, baby joggers, strollers, roller skates, inline skates, or any other not approved wheeled devices.

You may use your cell phone so long as you don’t pose a safety hazard on the course. Selfie sticks and camera mounts/rigs are prohibited. Other items such as large bags, coolers, props, non-running items, and weapons are not allowed on the course. Please use your best judgment regarding the safety of all participants for items not listed.

MAY I CANCEL MY RACE REGISTRATION?

Yes, you may cancel your registration at any time by reaching out to INFO@BEYONDMONUMENTAL.ORG. All fees (registration, ancillary products, etc.) are non-refundable.

We do have other options available if you are unable to participate in the race you registered for:
– Changing Categories
– Participating Virtually
– Transferring your registration to another participant
– Donating your registration to support the Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement

WHAT HAPPENS IF EXTREME WEATHER OCCURS DURING THE EVENT?

If extreme weather or an emergency situation becomes an issue during the Event, the Command Group will meet and determine the status/future of the Event. Depending on the situation, the Event may be delayed, ended early, or canceled. Information will be relayed to the race committee. Participants will be notified by course monitors and race officials. Participants will be required to use their best judgment, based on the situation, as to the next best course of action.

CAN I CONTINUE RUNNING ON THE COURSE IF I DON’T COMPLETE THE RACE PRIOR TO COURSE CLOSURE?

Continuing on the course after course closure is at your own risk. You will be asked by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to move off the streets to allow for vehicle traffic. No times are recorded after 3:30 p.m. for either the marathon or half marathon.

You may not receive full on-course support from aid stations and traffic safety personnel and you may not be allowed to complete the full race distance. Finisher medals will be awarded only to those finishing within the specified time limit.

WHAT IF I NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION DURING THE RACE?

There are twenty-one (21) aid stations with medical support and portable toilets on the course, including one at the start line and one at the finish line.

Event-authorized medical personnel may examine any participant who appears in distress. If in the sole opinion of authorized medical personnel, it is in the best interest of the participant’s health and welfare, medical personnel may remove a participant from the Event. Participants must retire at once from the race if ordered to do so by a member of the Event’s official staff, official medical staff, or any governmental authority, including fire and police officials.

Participants are responsible and assume liability for any and all medical expenses incurred as a result of training for and/or participation in the Event, including but not limited to ambulance transport, hospital stays, physician and pharmaceutical goods and services.

 IMPORTANT: It is recommended that you write any medical conditions, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts on the backside of your race bib. You must wear your race bib at all times during the event.

CAN I LEAVE THE COURSE AND COME BACK?

You will be disqualified if you leave the course.

You, as a registered participant, are responsible for recognizing and understanding Event signage and symbols relating to course maps and directions.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I COMPLETE A DIFFERENT RACE DISTANCE THAN MY REGISTERED RACE DISTANCE?

We encourage you to officially upgrade/downgrade and make other changes to your race registration prior to Race Weekend or at the Monumental Health & Fitness Expo.

Please note if you run a different distance than you’re registered for:
– Your official results may be impacted.
– You may not receive the correct or any finisher items.
– You may be disqualified.

Please note, your race entry/bib number is unique to your registration and distance; and may not be sold to any other individual or used for another event.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED?

The Event may be postponed, ended early, or canceled by an Event or government official for circumstances beyond the Event’s reasonable control. Circumstances beyond the Event’s reasonable contract include but are not limited to war, epidemic, civil or political unrest, terrorism, curtailment of transportation, or inclement weather. If the Event cannot take place for reasons outside of the Event’s control, registered participants will have the option to choose one of the following options, based on when the event cancelation occurs:

If the Event is canceled prior to May 31, 2024, participants may choose to have their race registration fee:

– Refunded 50%, less any processing fees
– Converted from in-person registration to virtual registration*
– Deferred to 2025 event registration (no extra fee to participate in 2025)
– Donated to support APEX BENEFITS MONUMENTAL KIDS MOVEMENT

If the event is canceled June 1, 2024–September 15, 2024, participants may choose to have their race registration fee:

– Refunded 25%, less any processing fees
– Converted from in-person registration to virtual registration*
– Forfeited to support Beyond Monumental and receive 50% off 2025 registration fee
– Donated to support APEX BENEFITS MONUMENTAL KIDS MOVEMENT

If the event is canceled September 16, 2024-Race Week, all race registrations will be converted to virtual race registrations.

* All registrations converted from in-person race registration to virtual race registration will be refunded the difference between the in-person race registration fee and the registration fee of the corresponding virtual race, less any applicable processing fees.

AMENDMENTS/CHANGES TO EVENT RULES & POLICIES

– Event officials reserve the right to modify, supplement, or waive all or part of the Event rules.
– Participants shall be bound by any modification or supplement of the Event rules published prior to the Event.
– Failure to follow Event rules may result in immediate disqualification, loss of prizes, and removal from official results.

Participants must follow instructions as given by Event officials including race staff, volunteers, medical personnel, fire and police officials, security officers, and city officials throughout the duration of the Event. Event attendees must adhere to Event, city, state, and other public health guidelines and orders.
