Beyond Monumental is committed to making our races sustainable for our local community. Beyond Monumental and our partners have held a long-time dedication to recycling, reusing, and reducing trash from our events. In addition to the steps we take to reduce the footprint of our events, we are committed to reducing printing and increasing our year-round sustainability efforts.

ReRun helps make race morning warmer, cheaper, and more sustainable. Runners can use pre-race layers to stay warm before the start line, then leave them behind for collection after the race. Every piece of clothing has another mile in it, and ReRun helps give those pieces a second life, whether through another race or by donating them to a local charity. SUSTAINABILITY RESULTS FROM THE 2025 CNO FINANCIAL INDIANAPOLIS MONUMENTAL MARATHON:

2025 FINAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

With the help of Zero Waste Event Productions, we succeeded in keeping more than 9,562 pounds of event waste out of the landfill via recycling, composting, and donating.

We’re thrilled that the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon reflects Beyond Monumental’s care for the environment.

BUILDING SUSTAINABLE EVENTS

At Beyond Monumental, we strive each year to improve our events for our participants and the planet. Our waste diversion efforts at the Monumental Health & Fitness Expo and CNO Financial Indianapolis Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K included:

  • We collected and recycled over 4700 pounds of cardboard and an additional 800 pounds worth of cans, plastic, and heat sheets.
  • Thanks to Liquid Death, we provide canned water for all participants at the finish line — a much more easily recycled product over bottled water.
  • Two on-course aid stations (stations H and R) are provided with all compostable supplies.
  • All electrolyte Hydration stations have compostable cups.
  • The finish line electrolyte Hydration and water station have compostable cups.
  • The finish line area and Post Race Celebration have thirty co-located stations (compost, recycling, landfill, liquids) with volunteers monitoring and refilling bags.
  • Six receptacles in the finish line area and Post Race Celebration to collect heat sheets for recycling.

LIQUID DEATH

Liquid Death is murdering thirsts and bringing death to single use plastic bottles with their infinitely recyclable cans. Liquid Death also donates a portion of profits from every can sold to help kill plastic pollution.
