Volunteer

The INDIANAPOLIS MONUMENTAL MARATHON needs your help Friday November 5 and Saturday November 6, 2010. From assisting at packet pickup to handing out water/sport drink to the race day participants or staffing the start/finish line, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon needs dynamic and energetic people to make this event a success.

Where can you help?

REGISTRATION / PACKET PICK UP
Help with distribution of race packets, shirts and bib numbers to participants.
Location: Indiana Convention Center – 500 Ballroom.
Shifts:
Friday Shift 1
10:30am – 3:00pm
Friday Shift 2
2:30pm – 7:00pm
Saturday Shift
6:00am – 8:00am
Total volunteers needed: 25 per shift

START LINE
Help send off over 8,000 people as they start their marathon or half-marathon journey –help with setting up corrals, hold seeding signs, or crowd control.
Location: Start line of race at Washington Street in front of the State Capitol Building.
Shift:
5:30am – 8:30 am
Total volunteers needed: 20

COURSE MARSHALS
Help runners and walkers along the route by providing assistance. You will be helping the participants by directing them at critical turn points and providing safety as they navigate this exciting course! You will be transported by a bus to and from your position. Refreshments will be provided.
Location: Various points along the course.
Shifts:
Report at 6:30 am
Shifts will end from 9 am to 2:30pm depending on location
Total volunteers needed: 175

FINISH LINE HELP
Help out at the finish line and congratulate people as they finish. Duties include chip removal, medal distribution, food and drink distribution.
Location: Finish line on Robert D. Orr Drive in front of the State Capitol building.
Shift: 8 am to 2:30 pm
Total volunteers needed: 50

WATER STATIONS
Help distribute water and Gatorade along the course to participants. You will be working with a group of people which will make it all that much more fun!
Location: Various spots along the course
Shifts will begin from 6:30am to 8:00am depending on location
Shifts will end from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm depending on location
Total volunteers needed: 20 groups
Each group working the combined courses (Full & Half) need to have a minimum of 20 people
Each group working just the Marathon course needs to have a minimum of 10 people
We will need ONE group to work the 5K course – should be 10 people

“ASK ME”
Help answer questions from runners/walkers in the start area before the race begins.
Location: Start line area & Finish Line area
Shift: All people to work 6:00am to 8:00am
-then 2 of the 6 should be able to work at finish line area from 8:30 to 1pm
Total volunteers needed: 6

GEAR CHECK
Help organize gear bags from the athletes before and after the event.
Location: Start line area
Shift: 6:00am to 2:30 pm
Total volunteers needed: 12

SET UP CREW
Help with set up of equipment/tables/chairs on FRIDAY evening
Location: Report to Start/Finish line area.
Shift: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Total volunteers needed: 6

TEAR DOWN CREW
Help with late afternoon tear-down of equipment/tables/chairs.
Location: Report to Finish Line area
Shift: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Total Volunteers needed: 10-20

Help out where ever is needed – start line, finish line, or somewhere in between!
