NOVEMBER 2, 2013 - EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Over 13,600 participants from eight foreign countries and 46 states helped set registration and finisher record numbers.
  2. We had the second consecutive sellout of the marathon.
  3. Five U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifiers, including 49 year-old Colleen De Reuck and 16 year old Alana Hadley. (read the Runners World article here)
  4. Five Course Records: Men's Marathon: David Tuwei - 2:16:40.8, Women's Marathon: Colleen De Reuck - 2:39:22.6, Men's Half Marathon: Robert Wambua - 1:03:35.9, Women's Half Marathon: Irina Alexandrova - 1:13:54.6, Women's 5k: Samantha Walkow - 16:50.1
  5. Darren De Reuck, founder of The Boulder Striders, The Running Republic of Boulder, and coach of Colleen De Reuck was a featured speaker at the Expo
  6. Mark Hadley, Head Coach & Director of the 2016 U.S. Marathon Trials Project, EliteMarathoning.com, and coach of Alana Hadley also spoke at the expo.
  7. Dr. Robert Kroeger, the founder of LifeNuts, a community based health and wellness program, spoke alongside Mike Fremont, a leading advocate for a plant-based diet for athletes.
  8. Scott Spitz, the inaugural IMM half marathon winner, served as the honorary starter for the half marathon and marathon.
  9. Mike Fremont, the single-age world record holder for 91-yr olds, participated in the half marathon.
  10. IPS Superintendent, Dr. Lewis Ferebee, served as the honorary starter and participated in the 5k.
  11. 900 elementary and middle school students from 15 IPS schools and the Challenge Foundation Academy participated in the inaugural Monumental Kids Movement culminating in the participation of the 5k. ( see photos here )
  12. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard was in attendance for the sixth straight year.
  13. The International School of Indiana won the Water Stop Spirit Competition.
  14. Franciscan St. Francis Health was the presenting sponsor of the half marathon and marathon for the sixth straight year with Apex benefits as the presenting sponsor of the 5K.
